Osun Assembly to use effective oversight to monitor state government programmes

The Osun state house of assembly has resolved to use effective legislative oversight to monitor efficiency of government policies, programmes as well as budget performance to herald the desired development in the state.

This resolution was reached at the close of the technical sessions of the three day retreat organised for the state lawmakers at Royal Park Hotel , Iloko ilesha, Osun State.

The resource person , Mr John Otutu comprehensively explained the methods and importance of effective oversight as a sole responsibility of the lawmakers apart from representation and bill passage.

The floor was opened for interactive sessions where lawmakers and heads of departments were given the opportunity to ask questions and make contributions

Speaking at the event, The Honorable speaker Rt ( Hon ) Timothy Owoeye, outlined executive sabotage and partisan politics as one of the challenges hindering effective oversight responsibility in state assemblies.

Mr Owoeye assures that one of the agenda of the state 7th assembly was effective Legislative responsibility geared towards monitoring state policies and projects.

Other speakers at the event included former speakers of the state assembly, Rt Hon Ajebare Bello , Rt Hon Najeem Salam , former deputy speaker and former chairman of the house committee on budget and planing Hon Kamiroulahi Oyedele.
