The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) has charged Nigerian professionals preparing for deployment to Rwanda to uphold the country’s image through professionalism, discipline, integrity and dedicated service, as the agency received returning volunteers who had completed their assignments in the East African nation.
The event brought together 11 volunteers preparing for deployment to Rwanda and 10 returning volunteers who had successfully completed their assignments in the country.
The Director-General of NTAC, Dr Yusuf Buba Yakub, who was represented by the Assistant Director I, Programmes, Mr Falusi Oladapo, described the deployment as an important opportunity for the volunteers to contribute to international development while projecting Nigeria’s image positively.
Yakub expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, for their continued support for the Technical Aid Corps programme.
He urged the incoming volunteers to recognise the responsibility attached to representing Nigeria abroad, stressing that their conduct, professional contributions and relationships with their host institutions would influence perceptions of the country.
He also encouraged them to approach their assignments with commitment, humility and a strong sense of patriotism, noting that their selection represented an opportunity to serve both Nigeria and humanity.
He further emphasised the importance of discipline, adherence to official communication channels and compliance with the rules governing their assignments, warning against conduct capable of undermining the country’s reputation.
The assured the volunteers that their welfare remained a priority for the agency and encouraged them to distinguish themselves through excellence in their respective fields.
The 10 returning volunteers were presented with certificates of service in recognition of their successful completion of their two-year assignments in Rwanda under the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) programme. The presentation marked the conclusion of their service and acknowledged their contributions to their respective host institutions, while reinforcing the programme’s commitment to professional exchange, international cooperation and the promotion of Nigeria’s image abroad.
The programme underscores Nigeria’s commitment to sharing its human resources and professional expertise internationally while strengthening diplomatic relations and promoting South-South cooperation.
The orientation and homecoming programme therefore marked both the beginning of a new phase of international service for the incoming volunteers and the successful conclusion of assignments for their returning colleagues, reinforcing NTAC’s role in advancing Nigeria’s international engagement through professional service.
