At 66, Reps Appeal to Nigerians to Renew Hope in the Nation
The House of Representatives in joining Nigerians at home and abroad in marking the 66th Independence Anniversary appealing for renew hope in the country.
“At 66, independence is both a legacy to honour and a responsibility to uphold. In 1960, our forebears raised a flag and made a promise: that Nigerians would govern themselves in unity and dignity. Through seasons of triumph and trial, the resilience of our people has kept that promise alive.
“That resilience has not come without challenges. Yet, through every season, Nigerians have continued to demonstrate the courage and determination to move the nation forward,” the House Spokesperson, Akin Rotimi said in a statement on Thursday.
He said “It is in that spirit that the House will continue to exercise its constitutional responsibilities of legislation, oversight and representation. We will continue to strengthen our institutions, advance the welfare and security of citizens, and uphold a democracy worthy of public trust.”
According to him, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, in his Independence Day message, urged Nigerians to renew their faith in the country and in the possibilities that lie ahead, expressing belief that Nigeria will continue to rise, stronger in unity, deeper in democracy and greater in possibility.
“As the 10th National Assembly, we remain committed to building a Parliament that listens to the people, responds to their aspirations and strengthens the institutions upon which our democracy rests. Our diversity remains our strength. Our democracy remains our shared inheritance. And our future remains a collective responsibility,” he affirmed.
“On this anniversary, we honour the generation that secured Nigeria’s independence, our Armed Forces and security services, and every citizen who contributes to the nation through honest labour and responsible citizenship.
“May this anniversary deepen our faith in Nigeria, strengthen our resolve to serve her people and inspire us to build a nation worthy of generations yet unborn,” the statement said
