Dangote, GCL and Senator Kalu Meet in Lagos to Boost Renewable Energy Plans
Business leaders and policymakers met in Lagos to explore new investments in renewable energy and industrial growth, as Alhaji Aliko Dangote hosted the Chairman of GCL Group, Mr. Zhu Gongshan, and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu at the Dangote Refinery.

The meeting, held at the Dangote Refinery, focused on expanding Nigeria’s energy mix through solar and wind power, while also developing the country’s lithium resources for battery production and electric vehicles.
Mr. Zhu Gongshan, Chairman of GCL Group, joined Senator Orji Uzor Kalu for the visit, where they were received by Aliko Dangote. Their discussions centred on practical steps to integrate renewable energy solutions into Nigeria’s industrial sector.
The talks followed an earlier framework agreement between Swiber Africa and GCL, aimed at supporting clean energy development in Nigeria. Stakeholders said the refinery, known for its scale in oil and gas production, could also serve as a base for broader energy investments. Participants highlighted plans to speed up solar and wind projects across the country and to strengthen the value chain around Nigeria’s lithium deposits. They noted that such investments could create jobs, support local industries and encourage skills transfer.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to long term cooperation, with an emphasis on partnerships that combine foreign investment with local resources to strengthen Nigeria’s energy security and industrial capacity.
