President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the National Assembly and the Federal Executive Council for what he described as improvements in the nation’s economy and security since 2023.

Akpabio spoke on Saturday at the funeral service of his late in-law, Elder Essien Pius Ubeng, held at the Methodist Church, Ukanna Diocese, in Essien Udim Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking at the service, the Senate President thanked the President, the Vice President, lawmakers and members of the Federal Executive Council for what he called visible progress across the country.

In the last three years, we have witnessed positive changes in the economy, security and infrastructure, he said. We are not yet where we want to be, but we have moved forward. With the support and prayers of Nigerians, we will get there. He also expressed appreciation to his colleagues in the National Assembly and members of the Federal Executive Council for supporting the President’s efforts, adding that governance should deliver benefits to all Nigerians regardless of political, religious or ethnic differences.

In his tribute to the late Ubeng, Akpabio described him as a devoted family man who blended easily into their family after marrying his sister. He said the deceased played the role of a brother with warmth and understanding, earning respect both in the community and in the church as a lay preacher.

Delivering the sermon, Most Rev. (Dr.) Etim Udo Ekong urged those present to live upright lives and treat others well, reminding them that death is inevitable and that people are remembered for the good they do.

The service drew family members, community leaders and worshippers who gathered to pay their last respects.
