Wike, Rivers Leaders Visit Late Senator Barinada Mpigi’s Family in London
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday led a delegation of Rivers State political leaders to London to condole with the family of the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a loyal friend and steadfast political ally whose death is a significant loss to Rivers State and the nation.

Senator Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District, died last Thursday at the age of 64 after a brief illness.
Speaking during a visit to the senator’s wife, Patricia Mpigi, and her children, Wike said the late lawmaker’s passing was deeply felt across the state, particularly among those who worked closely with him over the years.
He noted that Mpigi was known for his loyalty and firm convictions, adding that he stood by his friends in good and difficult times.
Wike, who said he had known Mpigi since their days in local government politics, described him as a strong figure in Rivers State’s political landscape. He expressed regret that the senator died at a time when his experience and influence were still needed.
Reflecting on the loss, Wike said although death is inevitable, the timing often remains painful for those left behind. He prayed for strength for the family and all who mourn the late senator.
The FCT Minister assured the family that the delegation would continue to support them and play a role in ensuring the senator receives a befitting burial.
Among those on the visit were Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule; Senators Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh and Olaka Nwogu; Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party Chairman, Aaron Chukwuemeka; as well as other political associates and family members.
In her response, Patricia Mpigi thanked Wike and the delegation for their support and presence during the difficult period, expressing appreciation for their continued solidarity with the family.
