Fadahunsi Media Office Replies Peter Obi, Describes Him as “Political Amateur”
The Media Office of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Industries and Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, has described former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s criticism of the lawmaker as the remarks of a “relegated political amateur” seeking to score cheap political points.
The response followed Obi’s statement titled, “You Are a Disgrace to Democracy — Peter Obi Rubbishes Senator Fadahunsi Over ‘Kill Accord Members’ Comment,” issued on Wednesday in Ilesa.
In a statement signed by the Head of Media and Public Enlightenment in the Senator’s office, Omole Olusegun Omo-Osodi, the media office accused Obi of attempting to inflame political tensions in Osun State rather than addressing his own political challenges.
Omole said Obi should have sought proper interpretation of Senator Fadahunsi’s Yoruba remarks before publicly attacking the lawmaker.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Obi needs to be schooled on how to interfere in political matters. If you don’t understand Yoruba, you are very free to seek interpretation instead of attacking the innocent and respected lawmaker,” he said.
He maintained that Senator Fadahunsi has never wished anyone dead and would not wish harm on any of his constituents.
“Our principal has never and will never wish anyone dead, not to talk of his constituents. Our principal is a peaceful man,” Omole stated.
According to the media office, the Senator’s comment was made in the context of the election, urging voters to defeat the Accord Party with their votes, rather than calling for violence against its members.
Omole alleged that Obi and others had misinterpreted or distorted the Senator’s remarks for political purposes.
He also criticised what he described as the growing reliance on social media narratives, alleging that Obi had followed the path of other social media commentators who had criticised Senator Fadahunsi.
The media office further demanded that Peter Obi and others who allegedly misrepresented the Senator’s statement retract their comments and apologise within 72 hours or face legal action.
“I unequivocally advise Mr. Obi and his co-social media politicians to apologise within 72 hours or face litigation,” Omole said.
He questioned why Senator Fadahunsi would wish harm on members of political parties in Osun East when supporters of the PDP, Accord, APC and other parties are all constituents represented by the Senator.
“I can’t imagine how Obi and his social media politicians think Senator Fadahunsi will want any of those he represents dead,” he added.
The statement concluded with a demand for Peter Obi to retract what the media office described as harmful statements and tender an apology to Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, OFR.
