Wike Leads Delegation to Receive Late Senator Barinada Mpigi in Abuja

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday morning received the remains of Senator Barinada Mpigi at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, as family members, political associates and supporters gathered to pay their respects.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at about 5:30 a.m. on Monday to receive the body of Senator Barinada Mpigi, who represented Rivers South-East.

He was joined by several political leaders and associates, including Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa; Senators Philip Aduda, Magnus Abe, Allwell Onyesoh and Olaka Nwogu; House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda; Rivers State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Ambassador Desmond Akawor; and APC National Vice Chairman (South-South), Victor Giadom, among others.

Family members of the late senator, including his wife, Patricia Obiageri Mpigi, and their children, were also present. Senator Mpigi died in London on February 19, 2026, at the age of 64.

Last week, Wike visited the senator’s wife and children in London to offer his condolences and help arrange the return of his remains to Nigeria.
