SECURITY AGENCIES SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR SECURITY LAPSES- SHEHU SANI
European Union EU today visited Senator Shehu Sani in his office in National Assembly, Abuja. The delegation was led by Josef Weidenholzer from Austria, Chairman of the DROI delegation. During the visit Senator Shehu Sani made it known that human right is fundamental to the society. Respect for fundamental human right gives distinct outputs. Nigeria respect for human right has not been smooth in the past two decades. We have faulted the area of human right gains and my role is to see that the 8 Senate move to give gain on human rights, Shehu exclaimed.
Senate works to install Human Rights Commission. Human right in Nigeria has areas of concern especially cases of Political class. People are arrested and detained because of views. In Security challenges and areas of insurgency security agencies should be held accountable for security lapses. And to human right issues, in prosecuting the war EU should assist democracy in Africa to reinforce human right arsenal to bring to book in Africa those that are frustrating human right agenda.
People who engages in violating human right are involved in trafficking human beings out of this country.
UN needs to assist as we move towards election year, for free and fair election, rising level of Political violence and our concern is on actors in politics. We have a dilema in terms of international criminal court (ICC). How will the court be able to prosecute cases when Nations are moving out of United Nations. The court should be able to penalize corrupt leaders. There is image problem and the International Criminal Court should be able to help in terms of human right.
