Ahead of Thursday’s governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress, disagreements have continued to emerge in some states as several aspirants insist on participating in the party’s primary elections despite efforts to promote consensus arrangements.
The APC is expected to conduct governorship primaries in several states on May 21 as part of preparations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Findings indicate that some party leaders and governors have been holding consultations to reduce internal disputes and encourage unity within the party before the primaries.
In Kwara State, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq endorsed Ambassador Yahaya Seriki as his preferred successor after consultations with party stakeholders.
The endorsement attracted support from some APC leaders and groups within the state, while reports also indicate that a number of aspirants are still interested in contesting the governorship ticket through the party’s primary process.
Sources within the party said some aspirants believe the contest should be decided through an open primary election.
Kwara remains one of the states attracting attention ahead of the APC governorship primaries due to the number of aspirants showing interest in the race.
In Oyo State and some other states, political activities have also intensified as aspirants continue consultations and mobilization ahead of the primaries.
