Senate President Godswill Akpabio has thrown his weight behind the newly inaugurated National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), praising its leadership and pledging support for reforms aimed at improving lawmakers’ welfare, including the possible return of legislative housing quarters.

The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, has praised the leadership of the 6th National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), describing the composition of the board as a timely and well considered choice for the 10th National Assembly.

Akpabio made the remarks on Wednesday, January 29, 2026, during a courtesy visit by the Commission’s leadership to his office. He congratulated the Executive Chairman, Chief Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, and other members of the Commission on their assumption of duty.

Speaking on the Commission’s plans, the Senate President expressed his willingness to work closely with NASC on institutional reforms, particularly the reintroduction of National Assembly Legislative Quarters to address accommodation challenges faced by lawmakers.

Earlier, NASC Chairman, Chief Dr. Saviour Enyiekere, outlined the Commission’s vision, which he said would focus on professionalism, discipline, and preserving the institutional memory of the National Assembly. He also revealed plans to establish a Council of Former Presiding Officers to document and safeguard legislative history.

Dr. Enyiekere commended Senator Akpabio’s leadership and noted that the Commission looks forward to working with him to advance key projects, including the proposed legislative quarters.

Despite a brief delay in the meeting due to proceedings in the Senate chamber, discussions were described as cordial and productive, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the National Assembly.

Akpabio concluded the visit by offering his full support to the Commission and wishing its members success as they take on the administrative responsibilities of the 2026–2027 legislative cycle.
