Sacked Reps Leader, Doguwa, storms National Assembly
Leke Baiyewu, Abuja
The embattled Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa, briefly appeared at the National Assembly Complex.
The Kaduna Division of the Court of Appeal had earlier on Monday sacked Ado-Doguwa as member representing Tudun-Wada/Doguwa Constituency of Kano State.
Ado-Doguwa was sighted at the entrance of the House chamber shortly before the plenary on Monday. He was accompanied by lawmakers and aides.
He later walked away.
It could not be ascertained as of press time if the embattled lawmaker was prevented by security men from gaining entry into the chamber.
While the Independent National Electoral Commission had declared the Majority Leader, the third-ranking member of the House, as the winner of the February 23, National Assembly election, candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Yusha’u Salisu, had dragged Ado-Doguwa of the All Progressives Congress before the Kano State National and State Assemblies Election Petitions Tribunal.
The tribunal had on September 5, 2019, dismissed the petition filed by the PDP candidate. The Court of Appeal had, however, set aside the judgment, saying the entire process of the election was marred by irregularities.
The appellate court ordered the INEC to conduct a fresh election in the entire constituency within 90 days.
