It has been over three decades since HRH (Dr.) Usman Nga Kupi ascended the throne as the Sa’Peyi of Garki.

Over the weekend, all roads led to his Palace in Garki Village, as Garki, and indeed, Federal Capital Territory residents, rolled out the drums in celebration of the popular paramount traditional ruler’s 33-year reign over Garki Chiefdom.

Boasting 28 district heads and 58 village heads, the largest and most significant Chiefdom in the nation’s capital plays host to Aso Villa -Nigeria’s seat of government, and the Federal Capital City.

Spanning over 210 square kilometres and occupying almost the entire Federal Capital City (FCC), Garki Chiefdom stretches up to Kubwa Expressway, Gwarinpa, Abacha Barracks and Kpaduma, bordering Karu in the East, Karshi in South, Kuje in the West and Jiwa in the North.

It also covers Asokoro District, Dei-Dei, Dutse, Life-Camp, Umaru Musa Yar-Adua Expressway (Airport road), Lugbe District and Giri -including the permanent site of the University of Abuja

People from all over these areas and beyond trooped to Garki Village to celebrate the monarch for entrenching peace and tranquility during his three decades reign over the Chiefdom.

As both Muslim and Christian prayers were said for more wisdom, good health and longevity for the charismatic traditional ruler, different persons, representatives of groups and government organisations, as well as the banks, corroborated one another, in their good will messages, extolling the sterling virtues of the energetic and people-friendly ruler.

While many eulogized the Sa-Peyi for his uncommon love for his subjects and willingness to go the extra mile for them, others hailed him for working diligently for unity and peaceful coexistence of all peoples in the communities and his domain, as well as ensuring hunan and physical of the communities.

In his response, Nga Kupi expressed sincere gratitude to all those who turned out to celebrate with him and the chiefdom, even as he regretted the sudden kidnapping and killing of the village head of Keti, Sunday Mbakwe whose corpse was yet to be found.

Calling on the people and security agencies to fish out all criminal elements in the FCT and confront insecurity head on, Sa’peyi urged all Nigerians to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, because he alone could not succeed in fixing the country and ensuring the needed development.

According to the respected and humble monarch, Nigeria was endowed with all the human and natural resources it needed, “What is lacking is leadership and management”, even as he expressed hope that Tinubu would become the leader the country needs.

“We need to give our younger ones proper upbringing and inculcate moral values in them. Lack of it is why we are having all these challenges in the society”, he urged.z

Born 66 years ago, well-read and widely travelled Usman Nga Kupi succeeded his grandfather, Alhaji Bassa Gajere, becoming Sa’Peyi Garki at the age of 33, on 1st June, 1990.
