TRAINING OF JUDGES,SUCCESSFUL INITIATIVE- ATTORNEY GENERAL

The 15th maritime seminar for judges organized by the Nigeria Shippers’ Council and the National Judicial Institute held in Abuja appears to maintain a high quality foe which the previous editors were noted.The Attorney General of the Federation and minister of justice in his goodwill message said the 15th edition has proved to be a very successful initiative within context of the efforts by the National Judicial Council and other stake holders to encourage the training of our Judges and legal practitioners in specialized fields of legal practice , such as maritime law. If our judges lack the requisite training and competence to adjudicate in maritime disputes in a fair and effective manner, it will, without doubt, lead to a loss of confidences in the Nigerian business environment, with negative consequences for us all as citizens and as Government.Mr Abubakar Malami said he was impressed by choice of topics and the assemblage of a most distinguished and prolific faculty to address the issues over the course of the seminar. He called on all to work to improve the litigation turn-around time in maritime disputes against the backdrop of extensive resources which may be lost by affected parties when litigation or arbitration drags on for too long.
