House Committee Chair Warns Against Food Price Hikes During Ramadan

The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Interior, Hon. Abdullahi Aliyu-Ahmed, has cautioned traders against the indiscriminate hike in food prices during the holy month of Ramadan.
In his Ramadan message to Muslim faithful across Nigeria on Saturday, Aliyu-Ahmed expressed deep concern over the sudden increase in the prices of groceries and essential food items just days into the fasting period. He warned that such exploitation would not only burden Muslims observing the fast but also affect non-Muslims, making life more difficult for all.
Representing Musawa/Matazu Federal Constituency in Katsina State, Aliyu-Ahmed urged traders and all Muslims to uphold the values of Islam by demonstrating the fear of God and love for humanity in their daily dealings. He described Ramadan as a time for deep reflection, heightened devotion to Allah, and the rejection of all forms of injustice that harm society.
“As we observe this sacred period in the spiritual life of Muslims, I strongly urge traders to desist from the practice of increasing the prices of essential goods at the start of Ramadan. Such exploitation contradicts the essence of this holy month,” he stated.
The lawmaker further called on Muslims to pray earnestly for the peace and progress of the nation, especially in these challenging times, and to fully dedicate themselves to the worship of Almighty Allah.
