REPS TO ADDRESS INFRASTRUCTURE AND OTHER CHALLENGES ALONG THE ABUJA/KADUNA RAILWAY LINE
Hon Sadiq Ibrahim moved the motion, noted that the railway was commissioned on the 27th of July 2016 to boost railway transportation and commercial activities between the Federal capital territory and Kaduna.
He said that the train which contains about 360 passengers capacity undertake four trips daily from Abuja to Kaduna except Sundays. He expressed that the air condition in the second class compartment is not functioning because of the adulterated diesel allegedly supplied by contractors who are alleged to be cronies of the management of the Nigeria railway cooperation.
He noted that out of the nine stops of the train only three security light are functioning which is capable of endangering the lives of passengers who will be disembarking on the station by night and also the poor state of the telecommunications .
The house says that it generate at least 1000 000 per day through tickets sales yet it lower cadre staffs are under paid and have extremely poor welfare package.
The house expressed worries that the train is been maintained by the Chinese engineering firm who are living at a high cost of the Federal Government without any transfer of technology.
Committee on land, transport has been asked to interface with Nigeria railway cooperation to address the issue. The house has urge the inspector general of police to deploy adequate number of security at each 9
Station between Abuja and Kaduna state.
