Rep Okorie task agriculturist on objective criticism at public hearing

The Chairman House Committee on Agricultural Colleges and Institutions Hon. Linus Okorie, today tasked agriculturists for objective criticism in a public hearing held at the House of Representatives National Assembly Complex Abuja.
The bills were referred to the committee by the speaker of the House of representative Yakubu Dogara.

The Speaker was represented by the deputy minority leader Hon. Chukwuka Onyemachi, in his speech, he encouraged all agricultural groups, associations and societies to forward submissions that will bring positive change in our agricultural sector. Present at the National Assembly for the Public Hearing are Medical Students, University of Abuja, other stakeholders like Prof. Garba Sharubutu, Prof. B.M Agaue Fodio university, Mr. Dehinde Ayeni & Prof. J.B Adeyanju.

Six bills were presented for objective criticism according to Speaker National Assembly, Hon. Yakubu Dogara by House Committee Colleges of Agriculture, and Institutions led by Hon. Linus Okorie, today at Abuja.

A bill for an act to regulate the profession of Agriculture and to make provision for establishment, functions and administration of Nigeria Institute of Agriculturists. A bill for Act to repeal the veterinary surgeons act cap. v3, laws of the federation of nigeria, 2004. A bill for act to amend the Nigerian Research Institutes Act Cap. N132, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to include the establishment of the Shea Butter Research Institute. A bill for an act to amend the Nigeria Co-operative Societies Act Cap. N98, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to provide for stiffer penalties to meet contemporary realities. A bill for an act to amend the Federal Universities of Agriculture Act, Cap. F22, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 to specify the minimum qualification of the chairman of the Governing Council, Ownership of Intellectual property and provide for pre-action notice to the University Authority. A bill for an Act to establish the fisheries research institute of Nigeria, NGO, Fisheries Research, Education and Cooperative training in Nigeria.
Speaking to press during hearing the chairman, Linus Okorie registered his readiness to enjoin the committee to scrutinize these bills and ensure that they meet the legal, regulatory and economic goals set out for the agricultural sector.
