**Abuja, July 20, 2026** – The Nigerian Technical Aid Corps (NTAC) on Monday convened a debriefing exercise for eleven volunteers who recently concluded their two-year technical assistance assignments in the Republic of The Gambia, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s technical diplomacy and South-South cooperation.
The exercise was presided over by the Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of NTAC, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub.
Designed as a critical post-deployment evaluation, the session provided the returning volunteers with an opportunity to reflect on their experiences, assess the impact of their assignments, and make recommendations aimed at improving the implementation of the Technical Aid Corps Scheme.
During the interactive engagement, the volunteers shared insights into their professional assignments in The Gambia, highlighting their contributions to capacity development through the transfer of knowledge, technical expertise, and professional skills across various sectors. They also discussed the successes recorded during their service, the challenges encountered, and lessons that could help strengthen future deployments.
The debriefing forms a key component of NTAC’s monitoring and evaluation framework, allowing the Agency to gather first-hand feedback from volunteers and assess the effectiveness of Nigeria’s technical assistance programme in partner countries.
In his remarks, the Director-General commended the volunteers for their commitment, resilience, and exemplary representation of Nigeria throughout their assignments. He emphasized that their service reflects Nigeria’s enduring commitment to supporting human capital development and institutional growth across Africa and other developing nations through technical cooperation.
Rt. Hon. Yusuf Buba Yakub noted that the experiences and recommendations shared during the exercise would contribute significantly to refining the Technical Aid Corps Scheme, ensuring that future deployments remain responsive to the development priorities of beneficiary countries while delivering measurable impact.
He reaffirmed the Agency’s resolve to sustain the ideals of the Scheme by deploying highly qualified Nigerian professionals whose expertise continues to strengthen bilateral relations, promote mutual development, and reinforce Nigeria’s leadership in South-South cooperation.
Since its establishment, the Nigerian Technical Aid Corps has remained one of the country’s foremost foreign policy instruments, deploying skilled professionals to African, Caribbean, and Pacific countries to bridge critical manpower gaps, foster capacity building, and deepen diplomatic relations through technical assistance.
The debriefing concluded with an interactive question and answer session between the Agency’s management and the returning volunteers, underscoring NTAC’s commitment to continuous learning, institutional improvement, and the sustained success of Nigeria’s international technical assistance programme.
