The National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) has pledged its support to the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for the successful hosting of the World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) scheduled to take place in Abuja in November.

The World Public Relations Forum, organised by the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management, is an international gathering of communication professionals, policymakers, academics and business leaders. The event provides a platform to discuss trends, ethics and best practices in public relations and communication.

Nigeria recently secured the right to host the forum in Abuja.

On Monday, the Acting President of the NIPR, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, led members of the forum’s National Planning Committee on a courtesy visit to the Executive Chairman of NASC, Chief Saviour Enyiekere. The visit was aimed at seeking the Commission’s cooperation and support ahead of the event.

Chief Enyiekere assured the delegation of NASC’s readiness to work closely with the Institute to ensure a successful outing. He noted that hosting participants from about 150 countries would boost Nigeria’s image and demonstrate confidence in the country.

“It is a great achievement to bring the world to Nigeria at a time when some foreigners are hesitant about visiting due to security concerns,” he said.

Earlier, Prof. Dandaura said the forum would provide Nigeria with an opportunity to showcase its professional expertise and cultural heritage to a global audience. He added that the event is expected to promote collaboration, support growth in the hospitality and tourism sectors, and strengthen professional standards in the communication industry.

The NIPR leadership also called for stronger institutional support in regulating public relations practice in Nigeria. The Institute urged compliance with its laws, which require that only qualified and registered professionals serve as spokespersons or protocol officers in organisations.

In addition, the Institute encouraged NASC to take advantage of its training programmes to enhance the skills of public affairs personnel. It also invited the Executive Chairman to participate in a special session on the legislature during the forum.

The visit was facilitated by the WPRF–NIPR Legislature Team in collaboration with the NASC Department of Public Affairs.
