It’s a remarkable step and an improvement on the engagement process of the Senate Committees to invite MDGs and other stake holders to submit and defend their budget. This is an incorporation of past recommendations that have urged Committees to enable Input at the point where it would be practical to implement recommendations.

Importantly, President Mohammadu Buhari, has requested for the recruitment of 15 000 personnels into the work force of NDLEA for better performance.

It was reveal yesterday during the Senate Committee on drugs and narcotics meeting on budget defense that the finance for Mr President order was intentionally omited by the Minister for budget and planning.

Drugs Abuse has been a problem of the nation at large in Nigeria. Youths engages in various form of drug abuse to jeopardize the future. Some, after taking those drugs go into kidnapping, rape, arm robbery, stealing, muder and other vices.

The President feeling concerned about the rate of drug abuse in Nigeria ordered the National Assembly to approve recruitment of 15, 000 more Staffs in NDLEA for better performance and effective caution on drug abuse.

The NDLEA boss, Col. Mohammed Mustapher Abdallah, revealed that the agency had requested for recruitment of more staffs in phases. He said phase1 can accommodate 5,000 recruits, phase2 and phase3 can cater for 10,000 more in take respectively.

The Chairman also said, they requested for the relocation of the NDLEA headquarter to a better environment with spacious accommodation.

However, it was discovered that the Ministry of Finance, Budget and Planning keep frustrating the process. NDLEA has done their bit by forwarding their request, and what they pushed to Mr President must be followed, the committee said.

The committee jointly agreed that the Ministry of Budget and Finance should go back and include what Mr President has ordered on recruitment of more staffs, noting the short term and long term benefits for Nigerians, as NDLEA has told the public what they need.
