COMPETENT PLAYERS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2018 COMMON WEALTH GAME-REPS

Members of the house of representative on Wednesday stated that the list presented by the Table Tennis Federation for players to represent the country in the common wealth game include the names of only male excluding the female from participating in the forth coming competition which comes up on the 4th and 5th of April 2018.
The house noted that the exclusion of female from participating in the competition is a clear case of gender marginalization. The lawmakers expressed that Nigeria has qualified a high rank of female tennis player in Africa both 2nd and 3rd.
Hon Ayo Omidiran who spoke on the motion said that not quite long women were celebrated at the world women’s day which had it theme for the year as ” press for progress” . She added that women should be given the opportunity to explore their talent or exercise their ability.
She further expressed that most of the female players have been preparing for the competition only to be surprised with a list that had no female in it.
Committee on legislative compliance have mandated to ensure that female are included in the competition and report back in one week.
