A member representing Abak/Etim-Ekpo/Ika Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon Emmanuel Ekon says the return of the former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar to the PDP will no doubt cause a tsunami in the All Progressive Congress.
Speaking with some newsmen on Tuesday evening at the ongoing interaction of the People’s Democratic Party caucus meetings with aspirants seeking various offices at the national level of the foremost opposition party, Ekon said Atiku’s departure is sure to affect the ruling party.
His words “you either like it or not, Atiku is a big fish, anybody will want to catch that kind of fish”. He said
“So for Atiku to defect, APC can say whatever they want to say, it is painful to lose someone like Atiku, if they want to agree”.
“We experienced it in 2015 when we lost how many governors, it all started like this”.
Also he stressed further “No one should under estimate that the Turaki that we all know will come to the PDP without other people from the APC, he has followers he is a big name, he is one politician that whoever is going to contest in APC should be afraid of”.
“There is no two ways about it, so the defection to PDP is a good thing, I mean we want it.”
“My prayer is more like Atiku should defect and come back to their party, this is their party anyway”.
Ekon who is the Chairman House Committee on Local content also gave a hint on why the meeting with various aspirants was necessary.
Don’t forget that the National Assembly, yes is the biggest caucus of the PDP, the national Assembly only cannot produce those we want to occupy offices.
“That’s why you are seeing a situation where aspirants are approaching the National Assembly caucus to sell themselves to the party members”. He said
“So what we are doing now is to ensure we get it right’.
“The expectations from the national convention are that PDP has to get it right, because if we fail on Saturday, we will find ourselves in a terrible situation, that’s why as a party we have voiced it clearly that we do not need consensus candidates”.
“I can also assure you that on Saturday , we are going to organize the best convention in the life of any party.
