HON. JIBRIN’S SUIT: COURT STAYS PROCEEDINGS AGAIN

A Federal High Court in Abuja has again indefinitely adjourned the suit by a former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, challenging his suspension. Justice John Tsoho, yesterday, ruled that the suit was adjourned pending the outcome of the application before the Supreme Court seeking to stay the matter until the determination of the status of members of the house seeking to join the suit. Jibrin is challenging his suspension from the House of Representatives following his allegation of budget padding against the leadership of the house. The application by Ossai Nicholas Ossai, Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Ethics and Privileges, and Oker-Jev Emmanuel Yisa, Chairman, Rules and Business, seeking to join the suit was dismissed by the court, thereby prompting the appeal. At the resumed hearing yesterday, Tolu Babaleye informed the court about the appeal to the Supreme Court and asked it to stay proceeding to await the outcome. However, Jibrin’s counsel, Femi Falana (SAN), asked the court to discountenance the application for not being properly brought to the court’s notice.
