Lawmaker Calls for Accountability Over Renewable Energy Implementation
A member of the committee on renewable energy, Honourable kalejaiye Adeboye Paul from Lagos State, has called for stronger accountability from the lead agency responsible for rural electrification, stressing the urgent need to address energy poverty in rural communities.

Speaking during the committee meeting held on February 24, 2026, he shared insights from his previous experience with the agency, noting that it is expected to play a leading role in driving renewable energy initiatives but has not demonstrated sufficient commitment.
He highlighted the difficult realities faced by rural dwellers, describing them as “the poorest of the poor,” many of whom cannot afford diesel, petrol, generators, or high electricity tariffs. He emphasized that renewable energy remains a critical solution for these communities and urged that the agency be adequately funded and properly budgeted to fulfill its mandate.

The lawmaker also expressed concern that the agency failed to appear at the investigative hearing, calling for it to be formally summoned to explain its absence and account for its responsibilities. According to him, this step is necessary to ensure transparency, strengthen oversight, and guarantee that renewable energy initiatives deliver meaningful impact across the country.
