Kwara, Benue Killings. Speaker Abbas Demands Stronger Security Response

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has condemned the recent attacks in Kwara and Benue States that reportedly claimed over 100 lives, calling for more decisive action to curb insecurity across the country.

Abbas described the killings as disturbing and unacceptable, expressing concern that innocent Nigerians continue to lose their lives in violent attacks across different parts of the country.

He said security agencies must intensify their efforts and work more closely with local communities to prevent further loss of lives and ensure public safety.

In Kwara State, more than 70 people were feared killed on Tuesday night when suspected terrorists attacked Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area. A similar incident was reported in Abande community, Mbaikyor Ward of Turan in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State, where bandits allegedly killed several residents.

The Speaker lamented the scale of destruction caused by insecurity, noting that its social and economic consequences have continued to affect communities nationwide.

He stressed that tackling the challenge requires a united effort, urging both government authorities and citizens to work together against criminal elements threatening national peace.

Abbas also called on security forces to sustain and strengthen their operations, noting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly have continued to provide the Armed Forces with the necessary support and resources to carry out their duties.

He expressed sympathy with the families of the victims and prayed for the repose of those who lost their lives in the attacks.

The Speaker further conveyed his condolences to the governments and people of Kwara and Benue States over the tragic incidents.
