Senate President Godswill Akpabio has revealed that his recent trip to Italy included a spiritual journey during which he prayed for Nigeria and its leaders.

Speaking about the visit, Akpabio said he went to Rome, which he described as the capital of the Catholic Church and the world capital when it comes to Christianity, and visited the mausoleum of St. Padre Pio.

According to him, he touched St. Padre Pio’s Mausoleum and offered prayers not only for President Bola Tinubu but also for himself, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Senate and National Assembly, the Federal Executive Council and Nigeria as a whole.

“I prayed against insecurity, that God should free us from insecurity. I prayed against banditry, I prayed against terrorism,” Akpabio said.

He acknowledged that his decision might look funny, but insisted that it was a genuine spiritual exercise rooted in his faith.

“It might look funny, but it’s the truth, because in our own religion, we believe that unless God protects the house, the watchmen watch in vain,” he said.

Akpabio described the trip as a slight pilgrimage, spiritual journey undertaken specifically to pray for Nigeria, adding, “I believe strongly”
