Committee Chairman Calls for Stronger Oversight on Renewable Energy Projects

The Chairman of the Committee on Renewable Energy, Hon victor Afam ogene, has emphasized the need for thorough investigation, accountability, and proper implementation of renewable energy initiatives across the country.

Speaking during the committee meeting held on February 24, 2026, the chairman raised critical questions regarding the number of completed renewable energy projects and the level of compliance with established standards. He stressed the importance of ensuring that projects deliver value and are not undermined by poor execution or lack of oversight.

He also highlighted the need to investigate foreign grants and investments in the renewable energy sector to ensure transparency and proper utilization of funds. According to him, strengthening monitoring mechanisms is essential to prevent loss of value and guarantee that projects meet their intended objectives.

The chairman further underscored the importance of transitioning ministries and government agencies toward greater adoption of renewable energy, noting that sustainable energy solutions are key to improving efficiency and reducing long-term costs.

In addition, he reiterated the oversight powers of the parliament, stating that the National Assembly has the authority to summon relevant stakeholders when necessary to ensure accountability and compliance with government policies.

He concluded by calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to clean energy while ensuring that all projects are properly executed for the benefit of citizens.
