APC CONFIRMS 2027 PRIMARY DATES AS TENSION OVER SCREENING CONTROVERSIES DEEPENS

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed that the dates scheduled for its 2027 primary elections remain unchanged, despite growing tension, uncertainty, and widespread political speculation surrounding the party’s ongoing screening exercises nationwide.
In a press statement released on May 13, 2026, and signed by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party dismissed reports circulating on social media suggesting that the primary elections had been postponed.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives primaries will hold on Friday, May 15, while Senate primaries are expected on Monday, May 18. State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for May 20, governorship primaries for May 21, and the presidential primary for May 23, 2026.
The announcement comes at a time when internal pressure within the APC continues to rise over alleged irregularities in the screening process, claims of political favoritism, and fears of possible defections by aggrieved aspirants in several states.
Political observers say the party’s decision to maintain the timetable may intensify the already heated battle for tickets, especially as reports of disagreements and lobbying continue to surface from different camps ahead of the primaries.
In Rivers State, the political crisis involving loyalists of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and allies linked to former Governor Nyesom Wike has continued to generate strong reactions, with many supporters anxiously waiting to see how the screening outcomes may affect the balance of power within the party.
Concerns have also emerged in some states over security fears ahead of the primaries, following allegations of rising political tension and movement of suspected thugs in certain areas.
As preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum, Nigerians are closely watching the APC leadership to see whether the party can successfully manage its internal divisions before the primaries begin nationwide.
