The Executive Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Zakka Maikalangu, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to completing key infrastructure projects that will improve the daily lives of residents across the council.
Speaking after receiving an **Award of Excellence from Nassnews Newspaper**, the chairman described the recognition as both humbling and motivating, noting that the honour reflects the confidence people have in his leadership.
“I feel deeply honoured by this award from Nassnews Newspaper,” he said. “It is not just a recognition of my efforts, but a reminder that the people are watching and expecting more. This award will inspire us to work harder for the development of AMAC.”
Maikalangu, who secured re-election in February, said one of the most significant achievements of his first term remains the ongoing road and drainage projects in several communities, which have eased movement and reduced flooding during the rainy season.
According to him, completing these projects in his second term will directly improve transportation, boost local businesses, and make life easier for thousands of residents who struggle daily with poor access roads.
“Our goal is continuity,” he stated. “Residents deserve to see projects completed, not abandoned. The impact will be visible in better roads, safer neighborhoods, and improved economic activities.”
On the challenge of urban growth in the Federal Capital Territory, the chairman acknowledged that waste management and proper urban planning remain major priorities for his administration.
He revealed that AMAC is introducing innovative strategies, including stronger partnerships with private waste management firms and community-based sanitation programs, to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability.
“With Abuja expanding rapidly, we must adopt modern solutions,” he explained. “We are working on smarter waste disposal systems, public awareness campaigns, and sustainable planning that will keep AMAC clean and livable for future generations.”

Residents and stakeholders have described the chairman’s renewed focus on infrastructure and environmental management as a sign of a more responsive administration, with many expressing optimism that AMAC could become a model for urban governance in the nation’s capital.
