Lawmakers representing Taraba State in the National Assembly have invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, to attend the official reception marking Governor Agbu Kefas’ defection, scheduled to hold this Saturday in Jalingo.

Members of the National Assembly from Taraba State, led by Hon. Zaku, paid a courtesy visit to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, where they formally presented the invitation.

The invitation was extended on behalf of the Taraba State political leadership and other key stakeholders ahead of the planned ceremony on Saturday, 31 January.

Speaking after the meeting, Hon. Zaku described the defection reception as a significant political moment for the state, noting that it represents a shift with long-term implications for Taraba’s political direction.

He said the presence of the Speaker at the event would further strengthen ties between the state and the National Assembly, while also encouraging unity among party members and supporters.

According to him, the visit to Jalingo by the Speaker would send a strong message of support to the people of Taraba and reaffirm the legislature’s interest in the state’s development. In his response, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen thanked the Taraba caucus for the invitation and commended them for their cooperation and collective approach to political engagement.

He noted that the lawmakers’ unity reflected a shared commitment to progress and assured them that he would consider the invitation.

The Speaker also urged political actors in Taraba State to place peace, inclusion, and service to the people at the centre of their activities, stressing that governance should always be driven by the interests of the citizens.

The defection reception in Jalingo is expected to draw senior government officials, party leaders, traditional rulers, and supporters from across the state and beyond.

Preparations are already underway in the state capital, with residents anticipating rallies, cultural performances, and goodwill messages as part of the event.
