SPEAKER NARROWLY ESCAPED DEATH
The Speaker Jigawa state House of Assembly, Right Honourable Isa Garba Gwaram, narrowly escaped being lynched by an angry mob in his Gwaram Constituency.
Reports say that the unfortunate incident occurred during Christmas break when the Speaker drove to the area, but was attacked by an angry mob, a situation which forced him to relocate to an unknown destination.
According to an eye witness trouble started when the Speaker and his entourage, including his security personnel entered the town and headed for his family home where some youths blocked the road, shouting and booing him and even went as far as pelting the Speaker’s car with stones.
It added that the lawmaker tried to ignore the protesting youths and the security attached to him attempted to force their vehicles through the people who blocked the road, a situation, which caused injuries to members of the Speaker’s convoy.
When contacted the Chairman Jigawa State House Committee Chairman on Information, Honourable Muhammed Abdullahi Bulangu, said The House was not aware of the happenings.
He (the Speaker) never informed me. I didnâ€™t hear it from any member, adding: It will be improper for me to comment on issues that I have no idea about.�
Similarly when contacted, the Jigawa state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abdu Jinjiri, said So far, I am not been brief from Gwaram Police Divisional Officer on the happenings. All what I can say is that there was a political commotion during the Christmas break in Gwaram axis; that is all what I can tell you precisely,he concluded.
