Wike Confirms Appointment of 1,659 FCTA Staff Hired Since 2016

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the confirmation of appointment for 1,659 staff of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) following a confirmation examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission.

The workers were among the 2,281 candidates who took part in a confirmation examination organised by the FCT Civil Service Commission on February 28, 2026.

In a statement on Sunday, the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, quoted the Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Ezeh, as saying that some of the workers confirmed were first employed as far back as 2016 and 2019.

Ezeh said 2,512 workers were invited to sit for the examination, but only 2,281 appeared.

According to him, 224 officers failed to attend the exercise, raising concerns that some of the names on the list could belong to ghost workers.

He added that while some of those who took the examination were recruited in 2016 and 2019, others joined the service shortly before Wike assumed office as FCT minister in August 2023.

The commission also said preparations have been completed to conduct promotion exercises for both 2025 and 2026 after receiving approval from President Bola Tinubu.
