Onyesoh Seals Move to APC, Registers at Ward Level in Rivers State
Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, who represents Rivers East Senatorial District, has formally completed his registration as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after enrolling at his ward in Etche Local Government Area on Saturday, marking a decisive step in his recent political realignment.

Senator Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, the lawmaker representing Rivers East Senatorial District, has officially completed his membership registration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) following his enrollment at the ward level in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The registration took place at Ward 5, covering Umuanyagu, Okomoko, and Okoroagu communities, where the Senator was received by the ward chairman, Mr. Godwin Nweke, alongside party members and supporters. His registration comes amid the APC’s ongoing nationwide membership e-registration exercise.
Senator Onyesoh had earlier announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a Senate plenary session on December 3, 2025. In explaining his decision, he pointed to the internal challenges facing the PDP, describing the situation as one that no longer aligns with his political vision and commitment to effective representation.
Speaking at the time, the Senator likened his political journey to a river finding its way to the ocean despite obstacles, stressing that his decisions are guided by purpose and the desire to deliver meaningful democratic benefits to his constituents.
Beyond the warm reception he received from national leaders of the APC at the Senate—including the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, and other senior party officials—Senator Onyesoh said it was important for him to formally identify with the party at the grassroots.
According to him, genuine development begins with a strong connection to the people at the community level, where daily realities shape their needs and aspirations. He noted that engaging directly with grassroots structures allows leaders to better understand these needs and respond with policies and initiatives that can improve living conditions.
Residents and party members at the ward described the Senator’s registration as a clear demonstration of his commitment to inclusive governance and grassroots participation, expressing confidence that his move would further strengthen political engagement and development efforts across Rivers East.
