Delta North Senate Race: Okowa, Nwoko Supporters Trade Words Online
Supporters of Senator Ned Nwoko and former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, have taken to social media to promote their preferred candidates ahead of the 2027 Delta North senatorial race.

Both politicians, who are currently members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), are widely seen as leading contenders for the party’s ticket, triggering online exchanges between their loyalists over who is better suited to represent the district. The exchanges have largely played out on digital platforms, with each camp projecting its candidate as the stronger choice.
Despite the online exchanges, political observers have pointed out that party primaries are decided by delegates, not social media activity, cautioning against overestimating online influence in internal party contests.
The debate intensified after Agugu Anioma, a socio-political group, publicly endorsed Okowa, prompting criticism from groups aligned with Nwoko. In a response, Agugu Anioma defended its position, citing Okowa’s previous experience in the Senate and his tenure as governor as key qualifications.
The group argued that Okowa’s familiarity with legislative processes, governance experience, and understanding of Delta North’s development needs make him a strong contender for the seat. It also dismissed what it described as “online endorsements without grassroots backing,” insisting that popular support, not digital campaigns, would determine the outcome.
As party primaries draw closer, both Okowa and Nwoko remain at the centre of attention in the Delta North race, with the APC ticket expected to attract keen competition.
