The Senate has resolved to investigate the deteriorating condition of Nigeria’s rail infrastructure, citing concerns over safety, efficiency, and its impact on the economy.
The decision was taken during Thursday’s plenary, where lawmakers described the rail system as vital to national connectivity and development but warned that persistent neglect has undermined public confidence.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu participated in the debate, supporting calls for a comprehensive probe to identify operational failures and ensure accountability. He noted that the investigation would help chart a practical path toward restoring the rail network and maximizing public investment.
In a separate session, the Senate paid tribute to the late Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, describing him as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to governance would be remembered.
Senator Kalu extended condolences to the Bayelsa State Government, the people of the state, and the family of the deceased, while reaffirming his commitment to responsible legislation and national development.
