SENATE PRESIDENT, BUKOLA SARAKI’S IMPOUNDED N298 MILLION BULLETPROOF CAR SETS NIGERIA ON FIRE

There are reports that the N298 million bulletproof Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle, SUV, belonging to Senate President, Bukola Saraki, is rotting away at the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, yard, nine months after it was impounded.

It was gathered that the car which the Senate in March, claimed it bought at N62.5 million, is on a crane at the entrance of the yard.

It was gathered that the black SUV, with chassis number SALGV3TF3EA190243, is being held over evasion of Customs duties and fake documents.

A source sighted the vehicle at the yard last week Thursday, when an official of the NCS facilitated his entry.

“A senior Customs official showed me the car when I went there for my personal business. I couldn’t take a photograph of the car, because we handed over our phones at the entrance to officials manning the gate”, he said.

Also, a Customs officer serving in Lagos, said the car has not been released, and that it has become, “government property”

“I can confirm to you that the car is still at FOA in Ikeja. You know if you bring contraband or you evade Customs duty, it’s classified as a seizure. Any car that is impounded becomes government property.

“When an item is seized it can either be auctioned or destroyed. I don’t know whether there is an arrangement to auction the car or not, but what I know is that it has not been released“, the Customs Officer who pleaded anonymity, said.

When contacted, the Spokesperson of the Senate, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, said: “I have no comment on that, because I don’t even know what you are talking about.”

When reminded that he once addressed the press on the car, he said: “The issue is so clear. If somebody is on a contract with you, he has not delivered and something happens along the way, why is that your business? That was what we addressed you on at that time.“

When pressed further, Sabi said: “I’m not the Contractor, he has not delivered. Whatever happens is between the Contractor and Customs.”

Asked whether the Contractor has returned the money paid by the Senate, Sabi said: “I don’t know anything about that. Go and do your investigation. I have come to the conclusion that you people in your paper don’t want peace, otherwise, how has this become an issue?

Post-Nigeria recalls that the news of the seizure of the car was unknown, until the Comptroller General of Customs, Hameed Ali, clashed with the Senate over wearing a uniform in March, two months after the car was impounded.

The car was intercepted and impounded by Customs operatives in January, while it was being moved to Abuja from Lagos by operatives of the Customs.

POLITICS: SENATOR OLUJIMI’S SUPPORTERS IN BLOODY CLASH

Several persons were reportedly wounded on Sunday evening, as supporters of Governor Ayodele Fayose and that of the Senator representing Ekiti South Senatorial District, Mrs. Abiodun Olujimi engaged in a bloody clash.

Fayose and his estranged god daughter, Olujimi, had been enmeshed in crisis over the latter’s governorship ambition, which the governor was alleged not to have been favourably disposed to.

This is also as two members of the State House of Assembly, Hons Adeojo Fajana and Michael Adedeji are reportedly under probe over their alleged conviviality and loyalty to Senator Olujimi, who is now in the bad book of the governor.

The clash allegedly took place in Kota-Ekiti in Ekiti East Local

Government area of the state during the meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the council.

A source said the two factions had come to the meeting with mind sets to outdo each other, which he said made the personalities involved to start displaying enmity towards each other shortly after the meeting commenced.

According to the source, the lawmaker representing Ekiti East constituency II and a known Fayose’s ally, Hon. Dare Pelemo, was said to have been beaten, with his dresses torn into shreds by Olujimi’s angry supporters.

Those wounded during the clash were said to have been taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.

The source said: “The meeting ended in disarray as the team loyal to Senator Olujimi and those loyal to Governor Fayose exchanged fisticuffs

“The house of assembly member representing Ekiti East constituency was beaten while other members of the team loyal to Governor Fayose ran for their lives”, he said.

The fight had attracted those in the neighbourhood and they were said to have been frightened to the extent that they had to run for their lives.

When contacted, Pelemo said Olujimi’s group actually attacked him but said he was never beaten to stupor as being rumoured.

“Yes, they attacked our members at the meeting just because they wanted to show supremacy they didn’t have.

“We have enough followers on ground who could deal with them, but we decided not to do so.

“Governor Fayose is a popular politician with wide followership, so these few people couldn’t have overpowered us as they claimed in social media”, Pelemo stated.
