GIVE AMBASSADOR (SENATOR) JIMOH IBRAHIM A SECOND CHANCE TO REDEEM HIMSELF

Prince Adeboye Omoboye

19th March 2026.

“OPEN LETTER TO SOME NIGERIAN CRITICS: NOBODY IS 100% EVIL, LEAVE KING CHARLES ALONE, CUT TINUBU SOME SLACK, GIVE AMBASSADOR (SENATOR) JIMOH IBRAHIM A SECOND CHANCE TO REDEEM HIMSELF AS NIGERIA’S AMBASSADOR AND PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UNITED NATIONS (UN) (EVERYONE DESERVES A SECOND CHANCE IN LIFE).”

By

Dr. Tonye Clinton Jaja, Senior Counsel of Nigeria-SCN.

“The Crown” is one of the most entertaining, and most educational Television (TV) series myself and my wife had ever watched.

Every evening after I returned from work and we had put our children to sleep, we would curl up in our sitting room and watch “The Crown”.

We watched it, over and over again until we could memorise and repeat the lines of almost every major character in the series.

The Crown is a historical replay of the British monarchy, described as “…a historical drama television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II, created and principally written by Peter Morgan”.

In “The Crown” one of the most memorable scenes for me was the poem recited by the character of the late Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Mrs. Margaret Thatcher.

Below is a reproduction of the poem by the late Scottish Poet, Charles MacKay:

NO FOE?

“You have no enemies, you say?
Alas, my friend, the boast is poor;
He, who has mingled in the fray
Of duty that the brave endure,
Must have made foes! If you have none,
Small is the work that you have done,
You’ve hit no traitor on the hip,
You’ve dashed no cup from perjured lip,
You’ve never turned the wrong to right,
You’ve been a coward in the fight.”

As the above poem shows, anyone who has held or currently holds public office, must as of necessity expect to have “foes” or “enemies” or “critics”.

Constructive criticisms of public office holders is a necessity that keeps them on their toes. It provides feedback and helps to guide public office holders to redirect their energies and public resources to the areas that are of more concern to the greater number of citizens.

This is important considering that public office holders are supposed to be serving the interests of the greater number of the citizens.

However, it becomes unhealthy when public criticism of public office holders is not based on concrete empirical evidence.

This is the aspect of public criticism that is unhealthy.

Also, another worrisome aspect is when CURRENT public criticism is based on the past mistakes or even crimes of public office holders, for which the said public office holders have been granted pardon based on demonstrated repentance and turned a new leaf.

The trio of King Charles, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT) and Senator Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim fall into this category of public office holders.

While watching “The Crown”, the sexual indiscretion and adultery of King Charles was brought to light. How he cheated on his late wife, Princess Diana with the Queen Camilla, who is now his current wife.

However, as upset as his late mother was, eventually the late Queen of England forgave him, and eventually the Church of England allowed him to marry the said Queen Camilla and today both of them are reigning as King and Queen of England!!!

With regards to President Bola Tinubu Tinubu (PBAT) there are many stories about certain aspects of his past life in the United States of America (USA) that are wrapped up in confidential documents kept by certain agencies of government of the USA. The government of the USA does not regard those past events as ongoing crimes that warrant disclosure, therefore, the government of the USA has appropriately allowed those documents to remain where they should be namely in the past!!!

With regards to Senator Jimoh Ibrahim, who has recently been appointed as the Nigerian Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), there is no record of his conviction for any crime either in Nigeria or any other country.

All the furore relates to a slew of business transactions that went awry which could happen to anyone.

Assuming though not conceding that he was culpable for any of those flawed business transactions that happened in the past, the said Ambassador Jimoh Ibrahim has learnt his lesson.

He has quit the world of business transactions and now turned a new leaf by entering into the world of politics and diplomacy, wherein he now believes he would be of better service to Nigeria (than in the world of business transactions).

Should we not give him a second chance to try “his luck” at this new venture that he has chosen?

After all, everyone deserves a second chance!!!

And for those who do not know, I initially joined the bandwagon and wrote against him when he was first nominated as an Ambassador.

However, he patiently sent me court documents that showed how he was found not guilty or culpable in many of those business transactions.

This man and the others as with everyone else in this life deserves a second chance!!!.

Yours faithfully,
