It was a profound honour to join His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, ably represented by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, H.E. Kashim Shettima, GCON; the Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON; Service Chiefs; senior government officials; other distinguished leaders; and the gallant men and women of the Nigerian Armed Forces at the Wreath-Laying Ceremony held in Abuja to commemorate the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
This solemn national event serves as a powerful reminder of the immeasurable sacrifices made by our fallen heroes, brave officers and soldiers who laid down their lives in defense of our nation’s peace, unity, and sovereignty. Their unwavering courage, selflessness, and devotion to duty remain the bedrock upon which our freedom and national stability stand today.
As wreaths were laid in honour of these heroes, we reflected deeply on the price of peace and the enduring responsibility we all share to uphold the ideals for which they fought, justice, unity, patriotism, and service to the nation. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten, and their legacy must continue to inspire present and future generations of Nigerians.
We also celebrate and appreciate our serving Armed Forces personnel who continue to demonstrate exceptional bravery and professionalism in safeguarding our country, often under challenging and dangerous conditions. Their commitment to protecting lives and preserving national integrity is worthy of our utmost respect and gratitude.
On this sacred day of remembrance, we renew our collective pledge to support our Armed Forces, care for the families of the fallen, and work tirelessly towards a peaceful, secure, and prosperous Nigeria.
May the souls of our fallen heroes continue to rest in perfect peace, and may their sacrifices forever be etched in the heart of our nation.
