Members of the house of representative moved motion to investigate the untoward activities going on in various internally displaced persons camps during it plenary session on Tuesday.
The lawmakers said that report has it that there have been activities such as rape committed women and children in the IDP camps.
The house noted that due to the invasion of boko haram in most states and it communities the people who fall victims of it attacks were left homeless. It is as a result of this, a place was built to accommodate the people for the time being but report has it that some persons have seen these as an opportunity to steal the relief materials meant for the internally displaced persons (IDP) and also cases of rape of children under the age of 15 were reported.
Hon. Hassan Saleh who spoke on the motion said that in various IDP camps security personnel who are supposed to protect the lives of people indulge in sexual molestation and also extortion of relief materials given to the IDP. He gave instance of girls under the age of 15 and below that were raped by security personnel’s.
The lawmakers noted that the human rights watch have written to various government agencies to request for comment on the allegation eminating from all the IDP camps but have not received any response.
The house have asked it committee on IDP and refugees initiative on north east to investigate the untoward activities in various IDP camps.
