EDHA REBUKES FEDERAL CONTROLLER OF WORKS

The Edo State House of Assembly resumed the third session of the second quarter on Monday October 9, 2017.

Before the house went on recess, it summoned the Federal Ministry of works, Dantata & Sawoe, Mother Cat and RCC to appear before it on the same Monday to talk about the slow pace of work on the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi expressway . The contractors were however absent, while the Federal Controller, Engr Oke Owe was around.

Engr Owe said that the contractors have been working on the said roads and the portion of Ekpoma to Benin was now motorable and that it would not take more than one hour to get to Benin from there.

The Honourable members however rebuked him for saying this, as most of them recently used the same road and spent three hours on it because of its worse state. Some of them even suggested going to access the road in the spot with Engr Owe, and if not met in the state in which he described it, they suggested that the Speaker, Hon Adjoto should throw him in prison.
Others also said that, Engr Owe’s presentation was unsatisfactory, but he should be given the benefits of doubt.

The house concluded that Engr Owe appear before it again in Monday 16, and come with the three contractors that has been awarded the road.

Hon Adjoto asked the clerk of the House to send another letter to the three companies asking them to appear before it on the same Monday next week. And if they failed to appear, an arrest warrant will be issued.

The House also commenced ministerial briefing for the Commissioners on the year under review. The Commissioners who appeared for the briefing today are, the Commissioner of Mineral, oil and gas, Hon commissioner Oghoke Joseph, Commissioner of Finance, Hon commissioner John Osagie Inegbedion, and the Commissioner of Energy and water resources, Hon commissioner Yekini Idaiye.

Two letters were received from the Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, one was for the consideration and confirmation of nominee Christian Azebamhe for the post of Auditor general. The letter was referred to House committee on Government House, Rules and Business to screen the nominee and present its report within a week.
The other letter was titled ” A bill for a law to provide a framework of the regulation and management of the Edo State health system.

The House also adopted a business calendar for the third session of the second quarter. The majority leader while presenting the calendar before the House, said that the House was to sit from October 9 to December 22, making it a total of 55 days.

AKOKO-EDO TRADITIONAL RULERS PRAYS FOR EDHA LEADERSHIP

Edo State House of Assembly today received a visit from Akoko-Edo Traditional Rulers Council which was headed by the chairman, His Royal Highness Oba Idogun the third, the Olokpe of Okpe kingdom. Oba Idogun expressed gratitude to the House for having them and also for electing one of their sons as speaker, adding that this was the first time in the history of Akoko-Edo to have produced a speaker. Oba Idogun also said that he believes that in the speaker’s time, Edo will move forward and become a better place. He prayed that God be with the sixth Assembly and guide them so they will not go astray.

While addressing the traditional rulers, the speaker, Hon Adjoto Kabiru expressed gratitude to the traditional rulers for coming, saying that their visit to the sixth Assembly is an epoch one. He also appreciated the Governor of the state for being a pragmatic Governor.

Adjoto announced that over the past week, oversight functions had doubled because he is determined to be pragmatic like the Governor and make Edo a better place. He said that since the Governor has been repairing roads within the state, the sixth Assemby have also paid a visit to Abuja to complain about the sorry state of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi expressway to the Minister of Health so that he can talk to the Minister of Works to put the road in a better state. He added that the entire committee in the sixth Assembly will visit the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi expressway tomorrow to witness its condition, and thereafter send a delegation to the Federal Government.

Earlier in plenary, Hon Adjoto Kabiru announced that the entire members of the sixth Assembly shall visit the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi expressway to witness its bad state. He added that after the visit, all relevant agencies will be called upon to make the road passable.
