ACHIEVING UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE IN NIGERIA
Sequel to the meeting of the Senate Committee on Health, the Federal Ministry of Health in collaboration with various Health stakeholders holds a summit, aimed at achieving Universal Healthcare in Nigeria, targeted at making Healthcare, affordable, guarantee and accessible to the ordinary masses.

At the summit, it is being legislated that;

There should be a central database to ascertain the number of people under the scheme.

*Provide leadership to the Legislative Network in terms of coordination, administration and stewardship;

 *Ensure that action plan for the network is developed and implemented in collaboration with the sub_committee’s, and reviewed regularly;

*Serve as a springboard for facilitating implementation of health legislation including National Health Act and statutory earmarking for Health such as Basic Healthcare Provision Fund at National level and Equity fund at the state level ;

*Identify gaps that militate against effective discharge of lawmakers duties as it relates to appropriation for Health, oversight and other Legislative functions;

*Mobilize technical and Financial resources from technical advisory group and other sources towards addressing identified gaps in legislative capacity gaps;

*Appraise performance of legislative network members based on agreed performance framework;

*Promote learning and exchange of ideas among state lawmakers and between nation and state lawmakers;

*Keep network abreast of emerging national and international Health policy thrusts;

*Forge a consensus on topical national and state level health policy issue and present a common front on behalf of the Network;

*Create opportunities at national, regional and international levels for capacity building for lawmakers on basic health financing concepts and acquaint them also with legal, policy and institutional frameworks for health finance reforms;

*Organize and hold quarterly and annual meetings, encourage robust participation on the networks social media platform and link members to targeted technical assistance;

*Represent the Network at the National Council on Health and other relevant national and regional events.
